What’s so important about a clean Blackstone River?

The Blackstone River is one of the many special attractions of living in this area. A cleaner river is in everyone’s best interest, from more recreational opportunities and improved wild life habitat to higher real estate values.

Kayaking, recreational fishing, and canoeing on the Blackstone River are some of the most popular outdoor recreational activities in the area. Was it only 30 years ago that the river was pegged as one of the nation’s most polluted waterways? Look at the dramatic improvement that has been accomplished in such a short time! Now we are mobilizing to make the Blackstone River an even more vital part of our lives. We are working to make the river fishable/swimmable, and, with your help, we can make it happen.

Every day, residents and businesses in the Blackstone River Valley make decisions that have an impact on the quality of the water.

With very little effort, YOU can take steps to make the River fishable/swimmable:

• Reduce the use of lawn chemicals

• Maintain septic systems

• Control erosion

• Redirect roof runoff to the lawn rather than the driveway
